Migration server2007 -  Server2013 - client connections

Hello,

i am doing a migration from a exchange 2007 to exchange 2013.

After this migration i want to uninstall exchange 2007.

Will existing Remote Desktop users be redirected to the new exchange 2013 when exchange 2007 is already uninstalled?

Thx

Hi,

Your email users will be redirected to Exchange 2013 as soon as you migrate their mailboxes to the new server, some time before you uninstall 2007.

If your TS doesn't hold hard-coded profiles pointing users to an exact Ex2007 - autodiscover should fix connections for everybody.

I agreed with Max suggestion.

You can follow this well described technet article to gather more information while doing Exchange migration from 2007 to 2013 : http://blogs.technet.com/b/meamcs/archive/2013/07/25/part-1-step-by-step-exchange-2007-to-2013-migration.aspx

It provides step-wise instructions in order to accomplish this job in flawless manner.

Moreover, while need to migrate users mailboxes from Exchange 2007 to 2013, this automated tool (http://www.exchangemigrationtool.com/) can also be a good alternative approach to deal in such situation. It provides the option to migrate users mailboxes without having downtime and get rid from any further interruption.

Hi,

Great advice from MaxMCSE. Once Exchange 2013 installed and modified DNS record to new server, autodiscover service will take response to client connection. If mailbox has been move to new server, it no need proxy or redirection. For Outlook client, we need restart it to complete modification.

Before remove Exchange 2007 in your environment, please ensure everything works fine with Exchange 2013. Besides, refer to below link to know more preparation before decommission Exchange 2007: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg576862%28v=exchg.141%29.aspx

Thx for the answers.

I have tested this, and it seems to work.

Question : I haven`t a internal DNS a-record for autodiscover.domain.com , but autodiscover seems to fix this for outlook...

The a-records isn`t needed for this?

Thx

Autodiscover internal DNS record is not required in most cases, - regular domain clients find Autodiscover and Exchange via SCP value in Active
